On John Kenn
John Kenn’s other worldly illustrations remind me of Haiyo Miazaki meets Tom Gauld with a subtle nod to Cerebus-era Dave Sims. But what really appeals to me is the fact that he renders all of his handsomely intricate penwork on post-it notes, thus catering to my office stationary fetish. They remind me of a time many years ago when – working in the cloakroom* at a London art fair – I would pass the time between fetching coats by producing commissioned illustrations in biro on some abandoned printer labels. *To this day I remain disappointed that at no point was I ever handed a cloak to put in the cloakroom.
