On John Kenn
John Kenn’s other worldly illustrations remind me of Haiyo Miazaki meets Tom Gauld with a subtle nod to Cerebus-era Dave Sims. But what really appeals to me is the fact that he renders all of his handsomely intricate penwork on post-it notes, thus catering to my office stationary fetish. Read the rest of this entry »
Photo Friday #1
Over the holidays we had the pleasure of travelling to the Alps to snowboard in the french resort, La Plagne. A wonderful time was had by all; the chalet was cozy with a crackling fire every night as three course dinners were served by our very friendly Ski Beat hostess with the mostest.
On Self Motivated Promotion

Logo Love #1
Hello all and happy new year! With the new year comes new columns, such as this one, Logo Love. To kick things off we’d like to show a little love to an ongoing project that we’ve been working on for a brand new business start up. The brief was to design a logo for a boxing academy that would appeal to everyone from the kids attending youth classes to the parents who fancy a bit of exercise. We crafted a tough but friendly boxing hare to appeal to all age groups. More from this project soon!
Monday's Musings
Given the recent meteorological drama unfolding here in the UK it seems somewhat fitting that I recently stumbled upon the Transcend by Recon Instruments and Zeal Optics. Advertised as the world’s first goggles with built in GPS and a heads up display that shows real-time speed and altitude data, it definitely reached out and touched the geek within me. On Confabulation
Recently we’ve been involved in the experimental arts project 7 Quiet Acts of Domestic Violence, and Dre was full of questions. So he came up with the concept of The Relay League – an ongoing platform to encourage cross-discipline exchanges of ideas. In a nut-shell, he would ask Tanya Cottingham, the residing artist of 7 Quiet Acts, some interesting questions regarding her reasons for putting on this show and her practice in general. Those who have been interviewed then go on to interview someone involved in a different field of expertise. The questions may pertain to his/her discipline and their thoughts on life in general to find out what concerns people from all walks of life. Our hope with this relay is that with each time the baton is passed, we’ll have some engaging interviews that express the opinions and interests from artists to street sweepers to lawyers and everything in between. So feel free to read our first interview and leave comments here on our blog! You can also find Tanya’s blog here.
On the Subject of Time
Three ways a client can show you what your time means to them:
- Schedule (and repeatedly re-schedule) a meeting to be only convenient for them and pay no heed to your agenda.
- Be late for the same meeting.
- Check every new email in their inbox at the same meeting.
Class dismissed.
On Live Art and Council Flats
We have recently been participating in an ongoing public/private live art exhibition located in Mile End, east London. The show consists of seven consecutive weekends of artists running live art/performance/installation/head scratching extravaganzas whereby guests are welcomed into a council flat scheduled for demolition to experience what is the brainchild of residing artist, Tanya Cottingham. Each week a new artist or collective is invited into the flat to create a site specific piece which is then opened to the public on every Saturday until the 27th of November. I had the opportunity to participate during Act 2 – Hysteria on the 23rd of October whilst Dre photographed the show. Dre has also been busy preparing a video piece which will show in Act 5 on November 13th. For more info and to book a spot on the guest list, visit 7 Quiet Acts of Domestic Violence. To see more of the lovely images that Dre captured, and also more from other acts thus far, look here. You can also view Tanya Cottingham’s own website, designed by yours truly, at Polishing The Earth.
