LMA Business Card

LMA Business Card Front

Hooray! Our new LMA business cards have arrived! After a bit of hair-pulling and a few times back to the drawing board, we ended up with some lush looking cards.

We chose a medium grey Colorplan stock called Smoke and our logo was foil-blocked onto the front of the card in a gun-metal grey colour. The smooth surface of the foil proved to be a nice contrast against the textured uncoated stock.

The reverse of the cards, which displays our contact details, was a bit of a nightmare. Originally we had planned to foil the reverse. We then discovered this wouldn’t work because the foil bleeds off on both sides, thus creating a problem with lifting when guillotined. Not ones to mess with a groovy design, (our logo always bleeds off the page!) we had to think of an alternative.

We gave silver litho a try but this too was a problem. For anyone attempting to print metallic ink onto an uncoated stock which isn’t dead smooth-don’t even bother! Because the ink contains metallic particles, it didn’t sink into the texture of the paper and the print came out looking rather dull. Luckily for us, we were working with a good printer who offered to try silver thermo instead; a technique which bakes pigment onto the paper giving it a lovely raised effect.

Even silver thermo didn’t show up well on the paper and we opted for black instead. In the end, we learned a few lessons about foil and paper stock, and we got some great looking cards too.
